Baseball Recap: Hutchison Takes a Loss

Hutchison had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-3 to make it ten. They came up short against the Monroe Catholic Rams, falling 20-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 26-9 two weeks ago.

As for Monroe Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4. Considering they have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Monroe Catholic's part, Daniel Bergstrom made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Bergstrom a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other pitching news, Liam Quirk looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Monroe Catholic is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Jett Debaun was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Charlie Menard, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Hutchison does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Monroe Catholic, they are taking a road trip to take on Lathrop at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams are facing the Malemutes at the right time seeing as the Malemutes are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
