Football Game Preview: Godley Wildcats vs. Mineral Wells Rams

The Godley Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Mineral Wells Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mineral Wells took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Godley, who comes in off a win.

Godley will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up six points two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Life Waxahachie on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Mustangs, posting a 48-7 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Godley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Adam Pempsell, who rushed for 186 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also caught one TD. With that strong performance, Pempsell is now averaging an impressive 116.2 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Ryder Papasan, who rushed for 67 yards and two scores on only five carries.

Godley's run defense was locked in: Life Waxahachie could only muster 1.3 yards per carry. The Wildcats didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.9.

Meanwhile, while it was Mineral Wells who put the first points on the board last Thursday, it was Ford who put up more. The Rams took a hard 35-21 fall against the Panthers. While the Rams didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 7-0 in the first quarter.

Mineral Wells' loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Godley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Godley strolled past Mineral Wells when the teams last played back in September of 2024 by a score of 31-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
