Basketball Recap: Durham Academy Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Durham Academy came into Friday's game having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cary Academy Chargers on Friday, sneaking past 40-38. This was a revenge game for the Cavaliers: when they faced off against the Chargers back in January, they had to take a 50-44 defeat.

Despite the loss, Cary Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabrielle Young almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. That was a full 44.7% of Cary Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Pulido, who earned nine points.

Durham Academy's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-12. As for Cary Academy, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Durham Academy will square off against North Raleigh Christian Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cary Academy, they will face off against Ravenscroft at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
