Softball Recap: Portsmouth Wins Going Away Against South Kingstown

Portsmouth's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the South Kingstown Rebels as Portsmouth made off with a 15-5 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Patriots considering their one-run performance the game before.

Mia Ruggieri made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Barbara Rainey, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Lilly Morgado was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

Portsmouth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .520 that South Kingstown posted.

The victory got Portsmouth back to even at 1-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Portsmouth will square off against rival Mt. Hope at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, South Kingstown is set to challenge their familiar foe Johnston at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
