Baseball Recap: Mercer County Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Geneseo, Mercer County was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] Spartans 7-5. This was payback for the Golden Eagles, who suffered a 6-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Carson Boelens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has become a key player for Mercer County: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 9-16 otherwise. Boelens was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Sedam, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Mercer County's win bumped their record up to 13-17. As for Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge], they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-14 record this season.
