Basketball Game Preview: Gregory-Portland Wildcats vs. Carroll Tigers

Gregory-Portland is 2-8 against Carroll since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Gregory-Portland Wildcats duke it out with the Carroll Tigers at 6:15 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Gregory-Portland is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Corpus Christi Moody on Friday. Gregory-Portland took a 51-37 bruising from Corpus Christi Moody.

Meanwhile, Carroll was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Flour Bluff, falling 53-31. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 784th, while the Hornets are ranked 90th).

Carroll's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Gregory-Portland, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 18-12.

Gregory-Portland skirted past Carroll 53-50 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gregory-Portland since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
