Basketball Recap: Jorey Billings' Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] over La Veta

South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 50-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Veta Redhawks. The Patriots were not able to make up for their loss to the Redhawks from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jorey Billings, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallas Calzonetti, who had 12 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

La Veta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tristan Musgrave, who on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds. Musgrave continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Isiah Rodriguez was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett]'s defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for La Veta, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.

Looking ahead, South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] will take on Cheraw at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for La Veta, they have already played their next contest, a 63-36 win against Aguilar on the 25th.
