Gainesville dropped down to 8-2 on Friday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Roswell Hornets by a score of  37-35. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  defeat the Red Elephants have suffered  since October 25, 2024.
 Gainesville lost  despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was   NIGEL NEWKIRK, who rushed for 142 yards and two  scores while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional  recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 103  rushing yards. Another player making a difference was  KHARIM HUGHLEY, who threw for 248 yards and a pair of  touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt.
As for Roswell, the  victory was  the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1. The  wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.7 points on average over those games.
  Trey Smith had another great game (as  he tends to do), rushing for 97 yards and four  TDs, while also throwing for 274 yards  while completing 72.7% of his passes. Those  four  rushing touchdowns gave  him a new career-high.  Wills Campbell also helped out as he racked up 155 receiving yards.
 Gainesville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Roswell, they will square off against Milton at 7:30  p.m.  on Friday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 9.8  points per game  this season, so the Hornets' offense will have their work cut out for them.
