Baseball Game Preview: Edon Bombers vs. Paulding Panthers

The Edon Bombers will venture away from home to take on the Paulding Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Edon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Edon was handed a 12-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Pettisville 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bombers have posted since April 15th.

Christian Owens was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Edon let Braedyn Wehrle and Kyler Sapp run wild. Wehrle went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Sapp went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases. Edon is undefeated when Wehrle posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carter Steinke, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Paulding challenged Spencerville on Thursday. The Panthers walked away with a 9-4 win over the Bearcats.

Paulding is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Edon, their record now sits at 10-8.

Edon suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Paulding when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bombers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
