Preview: Rio Grande City Rattlers vs. Palmview Lobos
Rio Grande City is 9-1 against Palmview since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Rio Grande City Rattlers will look to defend their home court against the Palmview Lobos at 6:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Rio Grande City has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Palmview will arrive with 16 straight wins.
Back in December of 2023, Rio Grande City came up short against Martin and fell 37-30.
Even though Palmview has not done well against Cigarroa recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Palmview enjoyed a cozy 57-42 victory over Cigarroa. Given Palmview's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Cigarroa is ranked 604th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palmview to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jocelyn Rojas, who scored 20 points along with five steals. Rojas continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Nicole Flores was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Rio Grande City's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Palmview, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season.
Rio Grande City came up short against Palmview in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 40-27. Can Rio Grande City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
