Recap: Hamilton Heights Huskies vs. Maconaquah Braves
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Hamilton Heights Huskies had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Maconaquah by a score of 28-21. The victory was familiar territory for Hamilton Heights who now have 11 in a row.
Owen VanHaaren was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Carson Fettig also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Hamilton Heights' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Michael Cain was the leader with three sacks.
Maconaquah's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Braxton Birner, who threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns. AJ Kelly was another key contributor, picking up 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Hamilton Heights has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 11-1 record. As for Maconaquah, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Hamilton Heights will be playing at home against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Indianapolis Bishop Chatard is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Maconaquah does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
