Basketball Recap: Claremont Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jaden Cardenas and Nolan Zitar

If Claremont was riding high fresh off their 69-34 takedown of Victor Valley on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wolfpack fell 62-56 to the Oakwood Owls on Saturday.

Nolan Zitar and Jaden Cardenas certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Zitar dropped a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Cardenas dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, Cardenas is now averaging an impressive 8.4 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Wani Limbe, who posted ten points.

Oakwood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Williams, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 17 points and six boards. Bryce Fletcher was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven assists.

Claremont now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Oakwood, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-2.

Claremont will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Western Christian at 6:30 p.m. on December 3. As for Oakwood, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on de Toledo at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Owls will be up against the Jaguars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 52.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
