Vermilion Valley Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Evan Parish and Co. Win Seventh in a Row

Evan Parish was instrumental in extending Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin's winning streak to seven on Friday. Parish was unstoppable, making 11 total tackles. He is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played dating back to last season.

Momence had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Parish it was a similar story. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Parish saw the Momence Athletics), he made 11 total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Castillo Came Up Big in Momence's 42-14 Defeat

Erick Castillo posted a new career-high in rushing yards on Friday. He rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 259 yards and a touchdown. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack and made two total tackles.

Momence's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-1. Castillo will try to repeat (or improve) on that dominant effort when he faces off against Watseka on Friday.

Big Game from Harrison As Oakwood Won 44-6

Winning always takes teamwork, but on Friday Chase Harrison stepped things up a notch to give Oakwood the 'W'. Harrison turned in nothing short of a gem, picking up 73 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He is becoming a predictor of Oakwood's success: when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

Iroquois West's probably not too fond of Harrison given he always seems to get the better of them. Harrison picked up 141 receiving yards and two touchdowns the last time he and the Raiders duked it out back in October of 2023.

Kyler Johnson Makes It Two for Oakwood

For the season, Johnson has run in 13 touchdowns while averaging 87 rushing yards per game.

Brogan Halpin Crosses Big Stat Threshold

The second Momence player making an appearance here is Brogan Halpin, and for good reason. He picked up 145 receiving yards and a touchdown. The performance once again pushed his average receiving yardage north of 100 yards per game (101.9). He torched the secondary when he pulled down a catch that went for 75 yards.

This year, Halpin has caught 9 touchdowns while averaging 101.9 receiving yards per game. He is looking even better than he did last year: after seven games last season, he was only averaging 25.14 receiving yards per game.
