Baseball Game Preview: Rancho Dominguez Lobos vs. Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears

The Rancho Dominguez Lobos will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against the Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Rancho Dominguez took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cabrillo, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Rancho Dominguez had just enough and edged out Cabrillo 2-1.

Meanwhile, Port of Los Angeles got themselves on the board against Santee on Friday, but Santee never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 11-0 win. The Polar Bears' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Steven Saenz and Jonathan Rosette made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Saenz didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rosette pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Saenz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Saenz scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Rosette scored a run while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs Saenz has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Jessie Guevara was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Joaquin Guerrero also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Port of Los Angeles hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santee struck out 11 times.

The victory got Rancho Dominguez back to even at 1-1. As for Port of Los Angeles, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Rancho Dominguez was able to grind out a solid victory over Port of Los Angeles in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rancho Dominguez since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
