Baseball Game Preview: Monroe Golden Tornadoes vs. Turner County Titans

The Monroe Golden Tornadoes will head out to face off against the Turner County Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Turner County took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Monroe, who comes in off a win.

Monroe will bounce into Monday's game after beating Sumter County, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Monroe narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Sumter County 7-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Tornadoes.

Jabraylen Mulkey and Javion Tinch made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Mulkey tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Tinch struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the fewest earned runs Mulkey has allowed since back in February of 2024. At the plate, Mulkey scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4, while Tinch scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Mulkey has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Kameron Vicks was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Calvin Grant, who went a perfect2-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Turner County fell victim to Baconton Charter and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blazers. The defeat continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Blazers: they've now lost three in a row.

Turner County's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Monroe, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Monroe came up short against Turner County when the teams last played back in March of 2017, falling 5-2. Can Monroe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
