Baseball Recap: Burlington Comes Up Short

Burlington fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Colby on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-5. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Lenny Ramirez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Ramirez was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Ramirez wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rowdy Humrich, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was Humrich's first of the season.

Burlington's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Colby, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Burlington will square off against Wray at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Colby, they will face off against Russell at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
