Weeki Wachee takes loss despite strong efforts from Jean Garcia and Donnie Becude

Recap: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Central Bears

The Weeki Wachee Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 79-60 bruising from Central. While losing is never fun, Weeki Wachee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 572nd, while Central is ranked 148th).

Despite the defeat, Weeki Wachee had strong showings from Donnie Becude, who scored 16 points, and Jean Garcia, who scored 21 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Becude has scored all season. Isaac Priester was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeroen "jd" Watson led the charge by scoring 23 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Watson is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Tykel Williams, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Weeki Wachee has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weeki Wachee will square off against Pasco at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pasco is on a three-game streak of home losses, Weeki Wachee a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. As for Central, they will head out on the road to take on Gulf at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
