Basketball Recap: West Laurens Takes a Loss

West Laurens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 63-54 to the Cross Creek Razorbacks. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Razorbacks are ranked 19th).

Defeat or not, West Laurens got some senior leadership from Nas Jones and RJ Whipple. Jones went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points, while Whipple went 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points. Jones' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Omarion Coverson, who posted nine points.

West Laurens' loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Cross Creek, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

West Laurens will challenge Academy of Richmond County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cross Creek, they will host Harlem at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Harlem's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches.
