Softball Recap: Giles' Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Giles dropped their record down to 12-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the George Wythe Maroons. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Maroons earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

Addie Lowry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Giles saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Summer Ceritano, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Addisyn Vanderpool was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for George Wythe, the win snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 7-11 record. The game was the first time they have beaten Giles on their field since April 29, 2024.

On George Wythe's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Morgan Layne gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Temperence Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Madison Hatcher, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Giles does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for George Wythe, they will face off against Auburn at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Maroons surely won't give up without a fight.
