Basketball Recap: Emily Mcmurray's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greenbrier over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee

Greenbrier fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 49-43 to the Eagles. The game marked the Wolfpack's lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Several Wolfpack players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emily McMurray, who posted 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The contest was McMurray's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. Jayla Ayler was another key player, putting up 12 points along with eight boards and five steals.

Arina Pasztor was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee. Pasztor is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is undefeated (and 0-3 when she doesn't). Alyssa Ashe also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Greenbrier and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Greenbrier wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 55-49 loss against Thomson on the 25th. As for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, they have also already played their next game, a 50-30 victory against Valor Christian on the 28th.
