Football Recap: Gavin Caldwell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Carbon Hill

Colbert Heights won the last time they faced Carbon Hill and things went their way on Friday too. The Wildcats enjoyed a cozy 54-38 win over the Bulldogs. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Colbert Heights' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Caldwell, who rushed for 128 yards and four scores on only 13 carries. Another receiver making a difference was Owen Hood, who gained 188 total yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Colbert Heights was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 382 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carbon Hill only rushed for 156 rushing yards.

Carbon Hill lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Dayton Miller, who rushed for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 238 yards and two TDs. Michael Baker was another key back, gaining 124 total yards and two touchdowns.

Colbert Heights' record now sits at 2-0. As for Carbon Hill, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Colbert Heights and Carbon Hill will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Wildcats will face off against rival Clements at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Carbon Hill is set to challenge their familiar foe Oakman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
