The Horse Creek Academy Stallions will venture away from home to square off against the Calhoun County Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Horse Creek Academy has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Horse Creek Academy is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since March 1st on Monday. They came up short against Andrew Jackson Academy, falling 12-2. The Stallions just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Horse Creek Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cannon Blume, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Connor Kanagy was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Calhoun County got the win against Wagener-Salley last Friday by a conclusive 11-1. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.
Wayne Farmer, Jr. was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Chippy Ayon was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. Brady Reynolds also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Calhoun County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wagener-Salley only posted an OBP of .167.
The victory made it two in a row for Calhoun County and bumps their season record up to 3-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12.5 hits in those games compared to only 4.33 in the others. As for Horse Creek Academy, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Horse Creek Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Calhoun County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Horse Creek Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Calhoun County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Horse Creek Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
