Preview: Madison Cubs vs. Columbus East Olympians
Madison is 1-8 against Columbus East since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Madison Cubs will head out on the road to square off against the Columbus East Olympians at 7:30 p.m. Madison is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Madison suffered a tough 61-40 defeat at the hands of Mt. Vernon. While losing is never fun, Madison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 39th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Quincy Reynolds, who scored 20 points. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was ?scar Gonzalez, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Columbus East pushed their score all the way to 64 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Jennings County 70-64.
Madison has not been sharp recently as the team has lost ten of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Columbus East, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.
Madison couldn't quite finish off Columbus East when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 51-49. Thankfully for Madison, Ben Sylva (who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
