Basketball Recap: Coventry Takes Down Lyman Memorial in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Coventry had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 66-36 win over the Lyman Memorial Bulldogs. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Defeat or not, Lyman Memorial got some senior leadership from Jenny Lopez and Phoebe Carpenter. Lopez dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds, while Carpenter posted seven points in addition to 14 boards and six blocks. Lopez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 21 games she's played. Juliana Haynes was another key player, putting up two points and seven rebounds.

The victory (which was Coventry's seventh in a row) raised their record to 21-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25.7 points. As for Lyman Memorial, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Coventry will square off against North Branford at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lyman Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
