Baseball Game Preview: Westminster School Martlets vs. Taft School Big Red

The Westminster School Martlets will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Taft School Big Red at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Westminster School will be strutting in after a win while Taft School will be coming in after a loss.

On Saturday, Westminster School needed a bit of extra time to put away Hotchkiss School. They came out on top against the Bearcats by a score of 8-3. The victory continues a trend for the Martlets in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won five in a row.

Matthew Shea was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Shea was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Westminster School got a big performance out of Alex Mihailovich, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. Another player making a difference was Easton Masse, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Taft School unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 5-2 to Kingswood Oxford on Saturday. The Big Red have struggled against the Wyverns recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Bolen MacKellar was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Taft School saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Jettelson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Westminster School came out on top in a nail-biter against Taft School in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Does Westminster School have another victory up their sleeve, or will Taft School turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
