Softball Recap: Monroe Central Takes a Loss

Monroe Central extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They lost 19-9 to the Daleville Broncos. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Bears of the 8-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Monroe Central got a big performance out of Laura Walker, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those hits marked the first that Walker has got this season. Another player making a difference was Jayme Brannon, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Daleville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won three games by ten runs or more so far this season.

On Daleville's side, they got a massive performance out of Raegan Jackson, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Jackson has posted since back in May of 2024. Valyn Pattengale was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Monroe Central is taking a road trip to square off against Yorktown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Golden Bears surely won't give up without a fight. As for Daleville, they will be playing at home against Blackford at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bruins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.25 runs per game on average), something the Broncos will no doubt try to take advantage of.
