Softball Game Preview: St. John Paul II Lions vs. Nauset Regional Warriors

St. John Paul II hasn't had much luck against Nauset Regional recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lions will welcome the Warriors at 3:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

If St. John Paul II beats Nauset Regional with 25 runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Lions put the hurt on Martha's Vineyard Regional with a sharp 25-9 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Vineyarders: they've now won five in a row.

Addy McRae was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Lola Our was another key player, getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one triple.

Meanwhile, Nauset Regional was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Bristol-Plymouth RVT, falling 22-10. Even if the Warriors couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Nauset Regional's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for St. John Paul II, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

St. John Paul II suffered a grim 37-21 defeat to Nauset Regional in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
