Baseball Recap: Eastern Victorious

Eastern took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Salem, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Musketeers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Lions on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Alton Swartz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Johnny Anderson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Eastern: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise.

Eastern's record is now 4-6. As for Salem, they dropped their record down to 7-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastern will welcome Providence at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Salem, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Mitchell at 5:30 p.m.
