Basketball Game Preview: Lawson Lightning vs. Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet Royals

The Lawson Lightning will head out on the road to face off against the Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet Royals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lawson will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Last Tuesday, Lawson took their matchup with ease, bagging a 67-22 win over Glencliff. That 45 point margin sets a new team best for the Lightning this season.

Chandler Galloway and Duran Head were among the main playmakers for Lawson as the former almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds and the latter posted 12 points and four steals. The game was Galloway's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Elliot Brooks, who had four points and three steals.

Lawson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet strolled past Maplewood with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 66-48. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Royals.

Lawson has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.1 points per game. As for Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Lawson was able to grind out a solid win over Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 48-37. Will Lawson repeat their success, or does Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
