Preview: Lyman Memorial Bulldogs vs. Wheeler Lions
Lyman Memorial and Wheeler are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Lyman Memorial Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Wheeler Lions at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, everything went Lyman Memorial's way against Westbrook as Lyman Memorial made off with a 55-33 victory.
Kevin Botticello was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. He also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Jordan Chandler was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, Wheeler scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took down North Providence 87-73. The victory was all the more spectacular given Wheeler's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 76th in Connecticut, while North Providence is ranked 11th in Rhode Island).
Lyman Memorial has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-12 record this season. As for Wheeler, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Lyman Memorial ended up a good deal behind Wheeler in their previous meeting back in January, losing 45-30. Can Lyman Memorial avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
