Baseball Recap: Morton Ranch Comes Up Short

Morton Ranch had lost eight straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-20 to make it nine. They lost 14-3 to the Cinco Ranch Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mavericks of the 4-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Morton Ranch saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edgar Flores-Guiterrez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Cinco Ranch, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-15-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Cinco Ranch's side, Josh Morelli spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits. Morelli is becoming a predictor of the Cougars' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-1 (and 8-14-1 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Cinco Ranch got a massive performance out of Drew Tureau, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Tureau has posted since back in March. Lucas Franco was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Cinco Ranch beat Morton Ranch by a score of 12-1 on Thursday.
