Baseball Recap: Hoopeston Extends Home Winning Streak to Three

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, Hoopeston was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Beecher Bobcats a 7-0 shutout.

Beecher's batters probably weren't too happy with Zach Huchel, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up three walks). Huchel also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hoopeston is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-14 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Cole Miller was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Ayden Larkin also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Hoopeston's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-16. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Beecher, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hoopeston will face off against Lexington at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Beecher, they will square off against Gardner-South Wilmington at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
