Softball Recap: Doniphan West Takes a Loss

Doniphan West fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Troy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 8-7. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Clara Feighner put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Brennah Edie made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-5. Brooklyn Denton was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Doniphan West now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Troy, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1.

While Doniphan West had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
