Merrillville hasn't had much luck against Lake Central recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Pirates will take on the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Merrillville has given up an average of 16.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Elani Alvarez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Robinson, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Lake Central came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 5-1.
Maddie Such spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kate Renschen, who went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Schafer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Lake Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Merrillville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-20.
Merrillville might still be hurting after the 14-0 loss they got from Lake Central in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
