Volleyball Recap: Camila Salinas and Jessi Meaden Secure Win for Columbia

Columbia proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Vallivue Falcons 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since August 23rd.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Columbia got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 28-26, 25-27, 25-22, 24-26, 15-12.

Leading Columbia to victory were Jessi Meaden and Camila Salinas. Meaden had 26 digs and three assists, while Salinas had 25 kills, 18 digs, four aces, and one block. That's the most assists Meaden has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Camilla Bengoa, who had 13 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Columbia was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Vallivue lost, don't look at Avery Daniel. Despite the final result, she had ten digs and eight aces. Another player making a difference was Paityn Carson, who had five digs and four aces.

Columbia's record now sits at 5-7. As for Vallivue, their defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Columbia has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Middleton on the 18th. As for Vallivue, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Nampa on the 18th.
