Softball Game Preview: Hiawatha Red Hawks vs. Perry-Lecompton Kaws

Hiawatha is 1-7 against Perry-Lecompton since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Red Hawks will take on the Kaws at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Hiawatha is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sabetha.

Michaela Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Meanwhile, Perry-Lecompton also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Rossville by a score of 11-8. The Kaws have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Paxton Damme made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Macie Corcoran was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Hiawatha's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Perry-Lecompton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Hiawatha's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Red Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Perry-Lecompton, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hiawatha continue to outrun the ball?

Hiawatha couldn't quite get it done against Perry-Lecompton when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 12-9. Can the Red Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
