Godwin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Deep Run, who was ranked 17th at the time (Godwin was ranked fifth). The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 6-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three games in a row.

Hayden Bynum looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
On the hitting side, Noah Namkoong and Alex Boyd did most of the damage at the plate: Namkoong went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Boyd went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Namkoong a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matthew Hartsfield, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Maggie Walker never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against John Marshall on Thursday. They blew past the Justices 27-13. Considering Maggie Walker has won four matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Maggie Walker let Cash Garrett and Quinn Redwine run wild. Garrett went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI, while Redwine got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Garrett also scored three runs, which is notable because Maggie Walker is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Colton Moore also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Maggie Walker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Godwin's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Maggie Walker, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Godwin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Maggie Walker struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Godwin's way against Maggie Walker when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Godwin made off with a 13-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
