Softball Recap: Oakman Wins Going Away Against Pleasant Grove

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cordova, Oakman was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Pleasant Grove Spartans with a sharp 12-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Wildcats' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Lizzy Cagle made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted over her last seven matches.

In other batting news, Oakman let Journi Randle and Aubrie Franks run wild. Randle scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Franks scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs Franks has posted since back in March. Calli Hamman also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Oakman's record is now 19-22. As for Pleasant Grove, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oakman will face off against Lynn at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pleasant Grove, they will take on Indian Springs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
