Basketball Game Preview: Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies vs. Buckeye Valley Barons

The Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies will take on the Buckeye Valley Barons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Johnstown-Monroe will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Johnstown-Monroe is headed into the match having just posted their biggest victory since February 16, 2024 on Saturday. They blew past Horizon Science Academy, posting a 66-37 win. Given the Johnnies' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Hawks are ranked 516th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Buckeye Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their game against East on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 57-53 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Barons.

Johnstown-Monroe pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games. As for Buckeye Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.

Johnstown-Monroe took their win against Buckeye Valley when the teams last played back in March of 2015 by a conclusive 64-42. Will Johnstown-Monroe repeat their success, or does Buckeye Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
