Preview: Holmes Bulldogs vs. Belfry Pirates

Holmes has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Belfry Pirates at 8:05 p.m. on Thursday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 75-44, which was the final score in Holmes' tilt against Dixie Heights two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 80-48, which was the final score in Belfry's tilt against Whitley County on Friday. While losing is never fun, Belfry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Whitley County is ranked 46th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was David Michael Hagy, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Makaden Maynard, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.

Holmes' loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-5. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.2 points per game. As for Belfry, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
