Baseball Recap: Limon Snaps 19-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Limon dropped their record down to 10-5 on Saturday, which also ended the team's 19-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They came up short against the Merino Rams, falling 14-2. The Badgers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Limon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camdyn Tacha, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Merino, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

On Merino's side, Coen Schmidt made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Schmidt has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Limon will face off against Las Animas at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Badgers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. Merino does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
