Basketball Recap: Swansea Tigers vs. Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins
After flying high against the Dreher Blue Devils last Friday, the Swansea Tigers came back down to earth. Swansea was dealt a 48-21 defeat at the hands of the Bruins on Tuesday. Swansea has not had much luck with the Bruins recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Swansea's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iyanna Butler, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Swansea struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Orangeburg-Wilkinson posted ten assists.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jenia Haigler, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and five steals. Another player making a difference was Joliyah Robinson, who scored 14 points.
Swansea's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Swansea will take on the Diamond Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lower Richland is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, they will be playing at home against the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Dreher comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
