Basketball Game Preview: Iroquois Redhawks vs. Cheektowaga Chargers

The Iroquois Redhawks will head out to face off against the Cheektowaga Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Iroquois is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since January 5, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Lackawanna by a score of 60-58. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Redhawks came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Steelers are ranked 641st).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cheektowaga, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Lake Shore 92-51 on Monday. That 41 point margin sets a new team best for the Chargers this season.

Cheektowaga has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.5 points over those games. As for Iroquois, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.

Iroquois came up short against Cheektowaga when the teams last played back in March of 2021, falling 53-45. Can Iroquois avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
