Aspen had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 40-0 victory over the Grand Valley Cardinals. The Skiers have beaten the Cardinals the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cardinals has come to flipping the script.

Dylan Mika had a dynamite game, rushing for 172 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries. Those 172 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Mickey Marolt was another key player, throwing for 125 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Aspen's defense and their six sacks. Grand Valley's QB won't forget Blake Contreras anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aspen will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Steamboat Springs at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Grand Valley, they will challenge Ellicott at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
