Basketball Game Preview: Hope Academy Trojan Tigers vs. Downey Christian Patriots

The Hope Academy Trojan Tigers just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Downey Christian Patriots at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Hope Academy was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Bilingual Christian Academy & Tech on Friday. Hope Academy simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bilingual Christian Academy & Tech 90-51.

Hope Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dwayne Foreman III, who shot 61% from the field on his way to 27 points along with seven assists and seven steals. Foreman III has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Willie Griggs, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Downey Christian on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Polk Christian Prep out of the water with an 85-55 final score. With the Patriots ahead 48-23 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Hope Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-11 record this season. Downey Christian pushed their record up to 22-11 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Hope Academy suffered a grim 108-83 defeat to Downey Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Hope Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
