Softball Game Preview: Los Lunas Tigers vs. Albuquerque Bulldogs

The Los Lunas Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Albuquerque Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Los Lunas' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Rio Grande. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Ravens: they've now won five in a row.

Ashley Baca was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacelyn Baca, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Brooke Baca was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

Los Lunas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Albuquerque ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. Everything went their way against West Mesa as they made off with an 18-11 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Albuquerque's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Los Lunas, their record is now 13-6.

Los Lunas skirted past Albuquerque 11-10 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
