Basketball Recap: Telfair County Takes a Loss

Telfair County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They had to suffer through a 70-26 loss at the hands of the Wilcox County Patriots. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-13.

Despite the defeat, Telfair County saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ty'Kristiany Jones posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Jones is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Telfair County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Telfair County's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for Wilcox County, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

Telfair County and Wilcox County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. Telfair County will square off against Toombs County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday up 345 places (122 vs. 467). Telfair County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Wilcox County (ranked 136th) will meet Hawkinsville (ranked 443rd) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
