Basketball Game Preview: Hillcrest Vikings vs. Westwood Longhorns

Hillcrest and Westwood are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Hillcrest Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Westwood Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Hillcrest's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 games.

On Wednesday, Hillcrest blew past Memphis School of Excellence - Cordova, posting an 89-29 victory. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Eagles are ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ja?Coby Lewis was his usual excellent self, putting up eight points in addition to ten assists and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cornell Watson, who made all 6 shots he took to post 13 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westwood). They breezed by Memphis School of Excellence Winchester to the tune of 79-17 on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Longhorns sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Westwood pushed their record up to 8-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Hillcrest, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.

Hillcrest strolled past Westwood in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 90-72. Will Hillcrest repeat their success, or does Westwood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
