Softball Game Preview: PACT Charter Panthers vs. Spectrum Sting

PACT Charter hasn't had much luck against Spectrum recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will venture away from home to challenge the Sting at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with PACT Charter sitting on four straight wins and Spectrum on nine (dating back to last season).

On Thursday, PACT Charter got the win against Heritage Christian by a conclusive 23-3.

Mia Sparre was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, PACT Charter got a massive performance out of June Tessum, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and five runs. Tessum continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sonja Larsen, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

PACT Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Spectrum faced St. Agnes in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Sting's pitchers stepped up to hand the Aggies a 4-0 shutout. The Sting's pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last nine games.

Spectrum pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 14.3 runs thus far. As for PACT Charter, their record is now 5-3.

PACT Charter suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Spectrum when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
