Ian Robinson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Robinson was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Brooks Merrill was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5. Braylen Rollins was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Oasis Christian came up short against First Academy on Monday, falling 19-8.
Landon Gall made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Gonzalez, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Oasis Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Canterbury's record now sits at 6-2. As for Oasis Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Canterbury has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Oasis Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Canterbury's way against Oasis Christian in their previous meeting on March 3rd, as Canterbury made off with a 9-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canterbury since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
